Well, B, as Dorothy Parker said, you can take a whore to culture, but you can't make her think.
It's an opportunity to become a true adult, but I know former JW's who are now Mormons, and to me, that's not a huge wakeup.
If you define adulthood as taking responsibility for your words and actions, many JW's go from being victims of the worls and of Satan, to being victims of the WTS. Getting past victimhood seems to be a good yardstick of adulthood.
high school is supposed to be one of the most memorable years of your life.
i had fun in my high school days, as i didn't become a jw until after i was married and had a child.
those of you who were born into the borg, your high school days must have been boring.
Well, I tried to do the double-life thing, but not very well, as I took almost no risks.
Mom and dad wouldn't let me do dances or athletics (baseball was a lifelong dream for me) but they would let me do academic extracurricular, unless it took up much time with worldly association (why I got removed from speech team).
The girl I wanted to take to my Prom is now a Hollywood producer. Hee, hee. My friend that was almost as good a impromptu speaker as I was, was state champion after I left the team, and is now an actor in Hollywood.
It was surreal, trying to fit in anywhere and failing... feel much more self-sufficient now.

he knew that witnesses believe in the resurrection of the dead on earth, in a different physical body during the millennium.. i told him that it won't be the same physical body, and maybe won't be identical, but it's the same person.
If you take feedback about your presentation as a personal attack because you don't understand it, you're choosing to take it that way - you do not have to. Don't be a victim, AlanF - you obviously know better.
I was providing feedback about your communication. It was free, and obviously you're free to ignore it -but if you take it as an attack, that would be sad. Someone offering you feedback is a mark of respect, not an attack.
If you think that your communication was perfect, look at the results. Let go of the righteousness inside the coconut shell for a minute and see how you can serve these people you want to serve more effectively. Of course, if you are serving an abstraction called "truth", this becomes irrelevant.

well, wife got a transfer to bend, or.. this is good - we've been trying to move out there for a while.

i just shared some good news with a jw who i considered a good friend in and out.
i just inked a two book publishing deal with an imprint of warner books.
the publisher specializes in christian fiction which is what i write.
Sounds like you were expecting a JW to not act like one. I have these situations where I unconcsiously want people to value me, and their relationship with me, more than they value the religion. It doesn't happen, and I am setting myself up to lose when I do that. Doesn't make their behavior right, understand, but if I'm expecting them to act differently than they ever have and I am hurt when they don't, I have a greta deal of responsiblity for creating that situation in my own head.
It's not easy, but those relationships are easier now that I consciously manage my expectations of them - and I have gone out and created more relationships that are stronger and deeper.

So let me get this straight...you're complaining because you can't watch the TV you want? Baeball is about the only TV I watch all year - that and the Daily Show.
TV rots your brain. If at any time you're tired of things like this, maybe you need to cut back! :)
